Alma Toaspern is a dancer and choreographer from Germany.  She studied contemporary and classical dance at the University of Music and Performing Arts  in Frankfurt/ Main and received a scholarship of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes). In 2014 she graduated from the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S., Brussels under the direction of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. She collaborated internationally  as a dancer, choreographer  and singer a.o. with  Bobbi Jene, Trajal Harrell, Tilman O'Donnell, Ben Frost, Ioannis Mandafounis, Kristin Ryg Helgebostad, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Renan Martins, Danish Dance Theater, The Royal Danish Orchestra and Sinfonieorchester Basel at venues such as MoMA New York, Documenta Kassel, Kaaitheater Brussels, Beirut Art Center, Centre Pompidou Paris and The Royal Danish Theater.

She co-founded the interdisciplinary company toaspern|moeller together with singer and composer Mathias Monrad Møller. They are working at the intersection of dance and music. 

 

Between 2018-2022 she was a member of the experimental dance Company Corpus as part of the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen and is a guest at Theater Basel and Danish Dance Theater.

2018-2023 she was  chairwoman of the association 4ft - Tanzplattform Leipzig e.V., a platform to promote and support the contemporary dance scene in Leipzig and Central Germany. She teaches improvisation based classes and workshops focusing on the interplay between the felt-sense, imagination and space. She uses elements of her practice as a singer to explore the connection between the vocal apparatus and the dancing body.
